Join G.G. Burns this week as she goes to Washington during NAMI’s national conference to join kindred spirits as they lobby Congress to support H.R. 3717, “The Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act.”

Follow her movements here, as Mrs. Burns goes to Washington.

On Tuesday, before getting on a plane for Washington, G.G. held a simple message–“Treatment Before Tragedy”–in a meeting she and other advocates from the national organization NAMI had in Kentucky with Rep. Andy Barr. They expressed appreciation for his support of H.R. 3717, “The Supporting Families in Mental Health Crisis Act.”

We encourage families and community members to go to a simple online advocacy tool, created by PopVox.com, to express their support for H.R. 3717. Send your letter to your congressional representative here.

After starting a campaign at 27% support for H.R. 3717, we are at 40%, due to the tireless efforts of concerned citizens such as G.G. We can make it 50% by week’s end. We can make it 60%. We can make it 75%.

On day 1 of the advocacy work, G.G. stood with the Flannery sisters as they dressed in the period clothes of mental illness advocate Dorothea Dix. You can read their brother Paul’s tragic story in the book, “Shot in the Head.” http://l.facebook.com/l/VAQGfF3y7/www.shotintheheadbook.com

Don’t you want a healthy and safe society for all?
